TASK Activities and Programs

TASK Act

TASK Act program is for 10 and under and will consist of stations specifically geared towards younger participants. During the 45 minute session, athletes will hop, scoot, run, stretch and row their way through the planned stations. These activities will work on coordination, strength and endurance all while building self confidence, self esteem and social skills.

Art Classes

Participants make arts and crafts each week. We work on fine motor skills including but not limited to cutting, gluing, painting, drawing, etc. Different media include clay, material, paper and more. Classes are divided by age; however, individual needs are always considered when determining appropriate placement.

Basketball

Athletes are divided into teams according to age and ability levels. Dribbling, passing, shooting, running, teamwork and rebounding are addressed in a station approach. Athletes spend the first part of the session in practice and end the session with a scrimmage.

TASK Bowling League.Bowling

Our bowling program is a six-week league where athletes learn and practice basic bowling skills. Bowling is one of three individual sports that TASK offers. It is a sport that athletes can play for a lifetime as part of a group or individually. For the TASK bowling season, athletes are divided into teams according to age and ability, and each receives a team shirt.

Modifications are made on an individual basis to allow athletes to succeed and learn about the game. Bowling ramps and gutter guards are available for those who need them. All are invited to participate, no matter what their experience or ability level. At the end of the bowling season, each athlete is presented with a trophy celebrating his or her hard work and success.

Cooking

TASK cooking classes focus on preparing simple meals that target healthy eating. Participants learn skills including measuring, following a recipe, kitchen prep and clean up, setting the table, and making various dishes. Cooking classes are for participants 11 and over.

Dance

TASK Dance focuses on creative dance. Dancers meet for six weeks and practice a routine that they perform at the end of the season. In addition, dancers are be exposed to a variety of dances including “Electric Slide,” “Cha Cha Slide,” “Hokey Pokey” and “YMCA,” to name a few. Dancers must be over the age of eight. For younger children, please see our Kids in Motion program.

TASK Fit

TASK Fit encourages fitness and good health through TASK Fit. Each month a different class will meet weekly. Possible classes include, Thai Chi, Zumba, Aerobics, Weights and Cardio. Check out the calendar page for details.

Floor Hockey

This activity is for athletes 12 and over. Athletes work on basic floor hockey skills and play scrimmages against another TASK team. A helmet/face guard and stick will be supplied. Athletes are required to wear their own shin guards.

TASK Golf Class.Golf

Our golf program focuses on skills including grip, swing patterns, driving and putting. The program consists of 45-minute sessions. Throughout the six weeks, athletes alternate between using the driving range, practice putting greens and a miniature golf course.

A station approach is used to focus on the skills listed above. The sixth week is spent at a golf course where the athletes have the opportunity to transfer the skills they’ve learned into actual course play. Golf clubs and other equipment are provided, although athletes may bring their own.

Karate

TASK Karate is taught by a certified karate instructor. The program focuses on basic self-defense, eye, hand and foot coordination, balance, agility and basic body space awareness. Karate runs for six weeks and is open to all Silver and Gold Members.

Kickball

As in many other TASK team sports, athletes are divided into teams based on age and ability. This program focuses on the understanding of basic rules: kicking a moving ball, throwing, catching, game play and team work. Kickball runs for six weeks.

Soccer

TASK Soccer Class. Our outdoor soccer program meets once a week for one-hour sessions. Teams are determined according to age level and ability. TASK soccer focuses on skills such as dribbling, shooting, goal keeping, throw-ins and teamwork. It also increases fitness and stamina for each player. Thirty minutes per sessions is devoted to skill building. For the remaining 30 minutes athletes put their skills into practice by playing in a soccer game.

Modifications are made on an individual basis so that each athlete can succeed and learn about the game. All athletes receive a team shirt. Soccer season usually begins in September.

Softball Programs

TASK tee ball, coach pitch and softball league programs focus on learning softball skills. This program is divided into three skill levels. The three programs are modified as needed to promote safety and success. All programs meet for one hour. Teams are chosen according to age and ability level and all players receive a t-shirt that they are asked to wear each week.

  • Tee Ball
This program is for the beginning ballplayer. Athletes work on basic skills such as throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and base running. All ballplayers participate in game situations and hit a ball off of a tee.
  • Coach Pitch
This league is designed for the intermediate ballplayer. Athletes continue to work on basic skills, but instead of hitting a ball off of a tee, they hit a ball pitched by a coach.
  • Modified Softball
This program is designed for the more advanced ballplayer. Again, athletes continue to work on the skills of the sport. We introduce pitching skills at this level and the athletes do the pitching in our games. We follow standard softball rules, playing three outs. However, batters are allowed five strikes instead of three.

Summer Camp and Swimming Lessons

TASK summer camp program is a one-week day camp offered to kids with special physical and mental concerns. The focus of the camp is on functional, recreational skills. In order to attend TASK Camp, a camper must have participated in a previous TASK activity (that’s because familiarity with your child is what helps us meet his or her specific needs at camp). Throughout the week, campers participate in a variety of activities including craft projects, swimming, bike riding, soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, water fun and fishing. Campers receive shirts that they are asked to wear every day.

At the TASK Swimming Class. The TASK summer camp provides campers the opportunity to work on social interaction and making friends while increasing skills in areas that they can generalize into their everyday lives. Each camper takes home projects, an award and many special memories. In the past, camp activities have included swimming, visits from an Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale, Fredbird and the bicycle police. Campers have made t-shirts, hats, picture frames, games and many other crafts.

TASK swimming lessons are combined with and taught during the one-week Summer Camp. Swimmers rotate through a variety of stations focusing on underwater swim, floating, basic strokes and treading water. Classes last about 45 minutes and the rest of swim time is designated as “free swim.” We accommodate each swimmer at his or her comfort level:

  • Terrified of Water
This level is for kids who have a fear of water and/or do not like to swim at all. We work on introduction to water through water play and beginning kicking and arm strokes.
  • Beginners
This group is for the beginning swimmer. We work on floating, kicking, introduction to underwater swim, treading water and introduction to some basic strokes as well as jumping off the diving board.
  • Intermediate
This group is for swimmers who have had some experience with lessons or basic strokes, but need to fine-tune their skills. We work on different kicks, front crawl stroke, backstroke and underwater swim as well as basic diving.
  • Advanced
This is for swimmers who know the basic strokes. We work on skills such as front crawl stroke, backstroke (longer distances), breaststroke, underwater swim and diving off the board.

Volleyball

TASK volleyball runs six consecutive weeks for one hour per session. Because volleyball is a fairly challenging sport, we will be using a variety of balls (beach, volleyball trainers, Nerf, etc.) to suit the level of the player. We work on the basic volleyball skills of serving, volleying, team play and the rules. In addition to modification of equipment, we will also be modifying the rules of the sport a little so that all who play achieve success. The volleyball season usually begins in early September and ends in October.
